07/12/07 The Green Dragon, Combe St Nicholas

Another welcome return to this friendly local for the Rockers. It was a cold blowy night outside but in the pub the temperature soon got up to boiling and stayed that way. Not that Rockin' Jon needs any assistance - he kicks out enough heat for a barbecue most nights when he's playing.A couple of technical hitches made for some excitement during the second set but the Rockers got on with it as soon as.

Great to see Mark and the boys and girls from Chard again. Thanks for the support guys and girls and maybe see you in the Choughs sometime soon! The Rockers are taking a short break for Xmas and to rehearse some new material but will be back in the New Year to raise the roof at a venue near you.And good to hear the news that we are getting played on Spanish Radio !!

01/12/07 Annabel's Nightclub, Plymouth

Another good night at the best nightclub in Plymouth. Annabel and Andy are excellent hosts and the place soon filled up so that it was standing room only when the Rockers took to the stage.

The boys thought they'd be a little rusty after a six week lay off (Jon's been busy recording his third solo album). As it happened, by the time they'd whipped through the first number they were up to speed as per usual and the first set went by in a flashIt was nice to see a lot of people in the audience who were definitely not on the rockin' scene but were definitely up for some rockin' sounds. Lots of people dancing and shouting for more. After a short break the boys came back and polished off the second set and had a rawkin' good time.

6/10/07 Beacon Castle Rock & Roll Club, Plymouth

Good to be back in Plymouth and playing for a rock and roll audience. The Beacon Castle is a nice club with a good stage and plenty of atmosphere.
DJ Slim Jim - a local legend on the rocking scene led the proceedings by spinning some top sounds and introduced the band as they came on stage. Jim is a top man and a really nice guy to work with - he couldn't do enough to help promote the music and the bands.
The Memphis Rockers delivered two fiery sets for the assembled masses, ripping in to some of their less well known material, as well as playing a few old favourites. They played both their self-penned numbers from their new album "Memphis Boogie" and were pleased that they went down well with the discerning audience.
Thanks again to DJ Slim Jim for looking after us so well.

29/09/07 Exmouth Pavillion With Some Like It Hot, The Lennerockers & Linda Gail Lewis

The Memphis Rockers were delighted to be asked to join the quality line-up for the  Rock n Red  Hot Club two-nighter ,the main event which was held at this large and well-appointed venue. Organiser Mike Burrows managed to book Linda Gail Lewis to play on her brother Jerry Lee's birthday. Also on the bill were Some Like It Hot from the North East, the Lennerockers from Germany and DJ duties were performed by Devons Mr Jive..The legend that is... Eddie Falcon.

The Rockers were first up and the hall was already full and buzzing as they took to the stage. The guys played a straight hour-long set which included many of their favourite tunes. Highlights were the excellent "Memphis Boogie" written by Rockin' Jon Smith and a stompin' version of the little-known Robert Gordon track "Lover Boy" from the 1980s. The boys finished with Webb Pierce`s classic "Teenage Boogie" and came off stage to well-deserved applause and shouts for more.

Big Mark didn't get much of a chance to rest his slappin' hand though. Some Like It Hot asked him if he could stand in for their bass player who couldn't make the gig. This meant that he had a break while the Lennerockers did their thing and then went back on for another hour with Some Like It Hot. The last minute substitution was ideal for both Mark and the Geordies 'cos Mark knew a good number of the tunes they were doing. On stage, no-one could have spotted that Mark hadn't been playing with the band for years. A great rockin' set that had the dancers on the floor for most it. One report that Rockin' Jon was seen twisting his hips has not yet been confirmed.

Then to the high spot of the evening - Linda Gail Lewis.

From the word go, Linda had the dance floor heaving and the whole house rocking. Many old favourites from the 50s were given the Linda Gail treatment as well of some of her own material. Linda Gail has a great voice and is no mean shakes on the 88s and she was ably backed by a familiar lookin' bunch. Yes - Some Like It Hot were back on stage again, with our very own Big Mark on bass for the third time that night! Mark's fingers were probably going to be a bit sore in the morning but he looked like he was having a great time.

Many thanks to Mike from Bristol for setting the whole  event up and for DJ Eddie Falcon for providing the sounds. Really good to see Pete and his good lady from the Mynster Rock and Roll club enjoying a night filled with rockin' good music.
